Our desire at Parkway is to see students develop in their walk with Christ. Students begin a relationship with Jesus Christ at salvation, then continue to develop that relationship for the rest of their lives. Our theme verses come from Colossians 2:6-7:
Therefore as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, having been firmly rooted and now being built up in Him and established in your faith, just as you were instructed, and overflowing with gratitude. (Colossians 2:6-7 NASB)
Paul challenged the church at Colossae to walk in the salvation they had received. Christians should live their lives in response to the love of Jesus. Additionally, Paul challenged them to be rooted and grounded, to know what they believed. When plants and trees have good roots, they are healthy and fruitful. They are able to withstand difficult conditions around them. The same is true of students and adults. If our lives are rooted in the Gospel, they will lead to good fruit that lasts in spite of changing circumstances.
This task is great, but our God is greater! Through the teaching and application of God’s Word on Wednesdays, Sundays, retreats, camps, mission projects, and numerous other times in between, students will grow in their love for God and love for others. They will have good roots in their relationship with Christ and their understanding of God’s Word.
